Upscale Media Films opens as a full-service microdrama studio
Upscale Media Films formally launched as a full-service production company for the microdrama market, led by CEO and founder Malik Davis. The model centers on controlling a portfolio of published book properties and pairing them with a standing crew that develops, casts, shoots, edits, and delivers in-house. Its first slate adapts Blake Karrington novels with Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat for the platform aTwist, and the company is in production on “Exotic Foods,” a ten-episode horror anthology built on a hybrid AI-assisted workflow.
Why it matters: Owning the IP and the crew at once turns a hit-driven business into a repeatable production line, which is what a studio looks like when it plans to stay.
